Through Taxperts Corp., in business since 1986, our firm handles Canadian & U.S. Personal Taxes, Corporate Taxes & Audits and Appeals. Our two lawyers handle Voluntary Disclosure Program applications and appeals in the Federal Tax Court.

Taxperts Property Services Ltd. (TPSL) has been handling residential tax appeals since 2001. We have always been a fee-for-service professional operation and we have had consistently exceptional results. The 2009 appeal process will be slightly more complex and time-consuming due to the requirement of going through the reconsideration process to obtain a decision then, in almost all cases, moving in to a full ARB appeal. In the past we filed residential appeals directly to ARB as we found the former optional MPAC reconsideration process worthless. All dealings at the ARB level are with MPAC and Counsel acting for the City of Toronto.

OUR FEES FOR RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY APPEALS:

$750 + GST for residential properties assessed up to $750,000 at January 1, 2008;
$900 + GST for residential properties assessed up to $1,000,000 at January 1, 2008;
$1,050 + GST for residential properties assessed up to $1,500, 000 at January 1, 2008;
$1,250 + GST for residential properties assessed over $1,500,000 at January 1, 2008;

A reduction of a little less than $55,000 will cover the maximum retainer of $1,250. We expect reductions of several thousands of dollars with some exceeding a million dollars. Reductions of your 2008 assessment will provide a permanent benefit as your “Current Value Base” for 2008 is reduced for the January 1, 2012 assessment.

For decisions where there is a very substantial reduction in the assessment, we are charging a `success fee’ taking our fee up to 30% of the projected municipal tax savings through 2012. A $300,000 reduction in assessment would save an owner about $6.750 in taxes over the 2009-2012 period. Our surcharge would take our total fee to $2,025.

THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR THIS ANALYSIS IF WE DETERMINE THAT IT IS NOT APPROPRIATE TO COMMENCE THE APPEAL PROCESS. REMEMBER THAT, ONCE YOU GET YOUR REQUEST FOR RECONSIDERATION IN BY MARCH 31, 2009 TO MPAC THAT YOU CAN RETAIN OUR FIRM TO ACT AS YOUR REPRESENTATIVE AT ANY TIME UP TO THE ARB HEARING. SO, IF YOUR RFR DOES NOT GO WELL, COME TO US AND WE WILL BUILD YOU A WINNING CASE.
